Truth is a name of God and His seal. It endures forever, while falsehood will ultimately collapse and fall.
Rabbi Hanina says: The seal of the Holy One, blessed be He, is truth.
Rabbi Akiva says [regarding the Hebrew letter] alef: What is the meaning of alef? It teaches that the Torah says: Truth teach your mouth, so that you will merit life in this world; your mouth teach truth, so that you will merit life in the World to Come. Why is this so? Because the Holy One, blessed be He, is called truth. He sits on His Throne in truth forever, His countenance will be preceded by kindness and truth, all His statements are words of truth, all His judgments are judgments of truth, and all His ways are kindness and truth.
For what reason are the letters of the word “truth” [emet] scattered, whereas the letters of the word “falsehood” [sheker] are juxtaposed to each other? It is because truth is hard to accomplish, while falsehood stands readily accessible next to one’s ear…. For what reason do each of the letters of emet stand on two legs, while the letters of sheker stand on one leg? It is because when anyone performs truth, the result endures forever, and he inherits a share in the World to Come, and he will not stumble in this world…but falsehood does not endure forever.
