Search for the Halakhic Source

The Talmud seeks the biblical source for the fact that others are not obligated to teach women Torah.

The Gemara established a causal link between those whom others are obligated to teach and those who are themselves obligated to study Torah: Anyone whom others are commanded to teach is commanded to teach himself. This halakha itself requires a source. And from where is it derived that others are not commanded to teach a woman? The Gemara explains the source: As the verse states: “You shall teach them to your sons” (Deuteronomy 11:19), from which it is inferred that the obligation is to teach your sons, but not your daughters. Accordingly, there is no obligation for others to teach women.
