Kedoshim

Rebuke

This Torah portion records the commandment to rebuke others. According to the Sages, it is no simple matter to issue a proper rebuke, or to wholeheartedly accept words of rebuke.

Rabbi Tarfon said: I take an oath by the Temple service that there is no one in this generation who can give rebuke. Rabbi Elazar ben Azarya said: I take an oath by the Temple service that there is no one in this generation capable of accepting words of rebuke. Rabbi Akiva said: I take an oath by the Temple service that there is no one in this generation who knows how to rebuke effectively. (Sifra, Kedoshim 2)
