Tzav

As Though You Sacrificed

Studying the laws of offerings is tantamount to bringing the offerings themselves.

The Holy One, blessed be He, said to Israel: Even though the Temple is destined to be destroyed and the offerings will be abolished, do not forget the order of the offerings. Instead, take care to read and study them. If you engage in their study, I will ascribe credit to you as though you are engaged in the actual sacrifice of the offerings. Rabbi Yitzhak said: What is the meaning of that which is written: “This is the law of the sin offering” (Leviticus 6:18) and “this is the law of the guilt offering” (7:1)? This teaches that for anyone who engages in the study of the laws of the sin offering, it is as though he sacrificed an actual sin offering, and for anyone who engages in the study of the laws of the guilt offering, it is as though he sacrificed an actual guilt offering.
