The animals fit for an offering are from among those that are prey, not from among the predators. A bull is pursued by a lion, a lamb is pursued by a wolf, a goat is pursued by a leopard. Therefore, the Holy One, blessed be He, said: Do not sacrifice the pursuers before Me, but rather the pursued. “A bull, or a sheep, or a goat, when it is born…it shall be accepted as a fire offering to the Lord” (Leviticus 22:27).
