The Blessings of Each of Jacob's Sons Are Included in the OthersJacob blessed each son with an individual blessing particularly appropriate for that son. The Sages add that nevertheless, each of the tribes was blessed with the blessings of the others as well.
“All these are the tribes of Israel, twelve, and this is that which their father spoke to them, and he blessed them; each man in accordance with his blessing he blessed them” (Genesis 49:28). The verse does not write: Blessed him, in the singular, rather, it writes: “Blessed them.” Why? Because Jacob granted to Judah the strength of a lion (see 49:6), to Joseph the strength of a bull (see 49:22), to Naphtali the fleetness of a deer (see 49:21), and to Dan the bite of a serpent (see 49:17). Would you say that one is greater than the other in these facets? Ultimately, Jacob included them all – “each man in accordance with his blessing he blessed them.”
