When Jacob and his family departed from Haran, Rachel stole teraphim (objects of idol worship) from her father, Laban. The Sages address Rachel’s motive for this.

“Rachel stole the teraphim” (Genesis 31:19). Her intent was entirely for the sake of Heaven. She said: We are departing from Haran; will we leave the old man in his state of sin? (Bereshit Rabba [Theodor-Albeck] 74)
