Rebecca, the wife designated for Isaac, was fit to be Sarah’s spiritual heir as one of the matriarchs of the Jewish people. Immediately upon her arrival, she continued the legacy of Sarah.

“Isaac brought her into the tent of his mother Sarah” (Genesis 24:67). As long as Sarah was alive, a cloud, the symbol of the Divine Presence, hovered over the entrance to her tent. When she died, the cloud was no longer there. Once Rebecca arrived, that cloud returned. As long as Sarah was alive, the doors to her tent were wide open to enable guests to enter. When Sarah died, the doors were no longer wide open. Once Rebecca arrived, the doors were once again wide open. As long as Sarah was alive, there was a blessing present in the dough she made. When Sarah died, that blessing ceased. Once Rebecca arrived, it returned. As long as Sarah was alive, the light miraculously remained lit from Shabbat eve to Shabbat eve. When Sarah died, that light ceased. Once Rebecca arrived, it returned. (Bereshit Rabba 60)
