According to the Sages, the first person in the world who experienced the phenomenon of aging was Abraham, and that occurred in the wake of his explicit request. Phenomena like pain and illness are also tied to requests of the patriarchs.
Abraham demanded aging. He said before God: Master of the Universe, when a person and his sons enter the same place, no one knows whom to honor. By adorning the father with old age and white hair, a person knows whom to honor. The Holy One, blessed be He, said to him: By your life, you have demanded properly and it begins with you. From the beginning of the book of Genesis until here, there is no mention of a person aging. Once Abraham our patriarch stood, God granted him aging, and that is what is stated: “Abraham was old” (Genesis 24:1). Isaac demanded afflictions. He said before God: Master of the Universe, when a person dies without afflictions, the attribute of justice is set against him when he dies.(YalkutShimoni, Hayei Sarah 1:105)
