The Sages have a tradition that Abraham was tested with ten ordeals, or trials of faith. Below is one tradition with regard to what, specifically, these ordeals were.

Abraham was tested with ten ordeals and he withstood them all. The first ordeal: When Abraham was born, all the prominent members of the kingdom and the priests sought to kill him, and he hid in the house of Haran his brother for thirteen years. The second ordeal: He was incarcerated in prison for ten years…and after ten years they sent and brought Abraham to Nimrod, the ruler, and they cast him into the fiery furnace, and the King of glory extended His right hand and rescued him from the fiery furnace, as it is stated: “I am the Lord who took you out of Ur(Pirkei deRabbi Eliezer [Higer] 26–30; Avot deRabbi Natan, version A, chap. 33)
