Abraham is commanded with regard to circumcision, and circumcises himself, Ishmael, and the male members of his household. The Sages describe the unique value of this mitzva.

Rabbi says: Great is the mitzva of circumcision. As despite all the mitzvot that Abraham fulfilled, he was not called complete until he was circumcised, as it is stated: “Walk before Me, and be complete” (Genesis 17:1). (Tosefta [Lieberman], Nedarim 2:5)
