Abraham and Sarah Draw People Near

The Torah relates that Abraham and Sarah took with them to the land of Canaan “the people whom they had made in Haran.” The Sages explain the meaning of this expression.

“The people whom they had made in Haran” (Genesis 12:5). Rabbi Hunya said: Abraham would convert the men and Sarah would convert the women. And what is the meaning of that which the verse states: “Whom they had made in Haran”? It teaches that Abraham and Sarah would bring people into their home, feed them, give them drink, show them love, draw them near, and bring them under the wings of the Divine Presence. You learn that anyone who brings one person into the wings of the Divine Presence is ascribed credit as though he created him, formed him, and shaped him. (Shir HaShirim Rabba 1)
