TheTaĥashOne of the materials required in the preparation of the sheets of the Tabernacle was “taĥash hides.” The Sages discussed the identity of the taĥash.
Rabbi Yehuda says: The taĥash was a large, kosher animal in the wilderness. It had one horn on its forehead and its hide had six different hues. The Israelites took it and made sheets for the Tabernacle with its hides. Rabbi Nehemya says: The taĥash was a miraculous creation [not a naturally occurring animal], and it was concealed as soon as it was created until it was to be used in the construction of the Tabernacle.
