The Song of the Children and the FetusesThe revelation of the Divine Presence at the sea was clear and palpable, to the extent that babies also joined in the song that the Israelites sang at the sea, and some interpret that even fetuses in the womb did so.
When our ancestors were at the sea, the child was lying on his mother’s lap and the baby was nursing at his mother’s breast. Once they saw the Divine Presence, the child lifted his head from his mother’s lap and the baby removed his mouth from his mother’s breast. They, too, opened their mouths in song and praise, and said: “This is my God and I will glorify Him” (Exodus 15:2).
