This DayEach and every day it is incumbent upon us to feel as though we received the Torah that very day.
“This day, the Lord your God is commanding you to perform these statutes” (Deuteronomy 26:16). What is the meaning of “this day”? Does it mean that until this day the Holy One, blessed be He, had not commanded the Israelites? Wasn’t the year when the verse was stated the fortieth year from the exodus? Why does the verse state: “This day”?
This is what Moses said to Israel: Each and every day the Torah should be precious to you as though you received it that very day at Mount Sinai. And it is written elsewhere: “You shall impart them to your children…The day that you stood before the Lord your God at Horev” (4:9–10).
