It is permitted to apply liquid insect repellant to one’s body on Shabbat.

If one wishes to use cotton wool on Shabbat, he should prepare pieces of the desired size in advance. If one neglected to do so and he needs it on Shabbat in order to attend to an injury, it is permitted to separate a piece of cotton from a larger wad.
