Haircuts and hair removal are prohibited on Shabbat, in every manner and form. Additionally, one may not comb one’s hair on Shabbat with a regular comb or brush, as there is a reasonable concern that one might detach hairs from his head, which is prohibited on Shabbat. One may use a soft-bristled brush if it does not necessarily remove hair from one’s head.

It is permitted to insert a pin or clip into one’s hair, but it is prohibited to braid the hair. Gathering one’s hair in order to tie it together with a ribbon or hair band is permitted.
