Food Preparation on Shabbat

Freezing and Defrosting Food

It is permitted to place any food or drink in a freezer in order to maintain its quality and freshness over time.

With regard to freezing water to make ice cubes or inserting an ice cream solution into the freezer to make ice cream, this should preferably be done before Shabbat. If it was not done before Shabbat, it is permitted to do it on Shabbat itself, provided that one intends to consume the item on Shabbat.

Thawing all types of foods, solid or liquid, for use on Shabbat is allowed, but liquids may not be placed on a heat source to speed up the thawing.
