Structure of Shabbat

Prohibition against Deriving Benefit from Prohibited Labor

If one sinned and willfully committed a prohibited labor on Shabbat, he is prohibited from deriving benefit from the results of his transgression. This applies to food cooked on Shabbat, as well as any other product that was produced through the desecration of Shabbat.

The prohibition against deriving benefit from a prohibited labor applies permanently only to the person who performed the labor. Others may use and benefit from the results of his labor immediately upon the conclusion of Shabbat.

But when the prohibition is performed unwittingly, i.e., due to lack of knowledge or forgetfulness, it is permitted even for the one who performed the labor to benefit from its results, after Shabbat has ended.
