Structure of Shabbat
Seuda ShelishitAfter the afternoon service one eats the third meal of Shabbat, seuda shelishit. As noted above, both men and women are obligated to partake in this meal.
There is no Kiddush at this meal. It is fitting to recite the HaMotzi blessing on lehem mishneh, as at the previous two meals. If one does not have two hallot, he may also recite the blessing on a single halla. On this occasion there is no need to cover the hallot before the blessing, as no Kiddush is recited over wine.
If one is still full from the previous meal, to the extent that eating a third meal will cause him significant discomfort, he is not obligated to eat another meal. It is therefore advisable to consider this possibility in advance and not to eat too much at the daytime meal, in order to leave room for the third meal. Although it is preferable to eat bread at this meal, one who finds it difficult to eat bread may eat other foods.
