Structure of Shabbat
Shabbat CustomsAs it is a mitzva to enjoy the Shabbat, and it has been said that “sleep on Shabbat is a delight,” one who is accustomed to taking a nap on a weekday should do so on Shabbat as well.
At the same time, the Sages stated in the Talmud, “Shabbat and festivals were given to Israel only to occupy themselves with Torah” (Jerusalem Talmud, Shabbat 16:3). It is therefore appropriate to make use of the leisure hours of Shabbat to study Torah, whether independently or by attending public lectures.
