Structure of Shabbat

Prayers on Shabbat Morning

In the Shabbat morning service, certain selected psalms are added which are not recited on weekdays. The Amida prayer on Shabbat is shorter than on the other days of the week, and contains only seven blessings.

At the end of the morning service, the Torah is read. On every Shabbat a different weekly Torah portion [parashat hashavua] is read, in sequence, so that the congregation completes the entire Torah each year.
