Weddings
InstructionIn order to live their married life in accordance with Jewish law, the bride and groom must be knowledgeable in the many mitzvot and halakhot that govern married life. It is therefore customary for the bride and groom to receive instruction in these areas before the wedding. In their meetings with their instructors, it is a good idea for them to raise any questions and concerns they may have, not only about the relevant halakhot but about the husband-wife relationship and general family life. It is therefore important to choose a counselor with whom one feels comfortable enough to speak openly about any questions or concerns they may have.
In Israel, in accordance with the directives of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, every bride must undergo a training course with a certified bridal counselor. Upon completing the course, this instructor gives the bride a written confirmation of her training, which the bride will pass on to the office that handles the marriage file. Some religious councils require that grooms as well receive guidance from qualified counselors before the wedding.
